Attractions in Chon Buri province in Thailand

thai tour

The province that is home to internationally famed Pattaya boasts other fine attractions too. Get off the beaten path and discover the less visited delights of the East Coast.

Due to its excellent seaports, Chon Buri, the provincial capital just 81 km. southeast of Bangkok, has for generations served as a centre for commercial and cultural exchange. Nowadays, it is becoming appreciated for its tourism potential, with its splendid beaches, crystal-clear water, offshore islands, marine life, and unspoiled vistas. While inland, verdant forests and cascading waterfalls create a lush, tropical atmosphere.

City attractions in Chon Buri

Wat Yai lnthraram

Wat Yai Inthraram is an old temple built in the Ayutthaya period in that distinctive style. This is evident from the Ubosot (ordination hall) and Wihan (image hall) with their unique curved bases, and from the carved wooden door panels at the Mondop (square building with a pyramidal roof) over the Holy Footprints of the Lord Buddha. The Ubosot itself was renovated during the reign of King Rama III using glassware to adorn the gables and windows. Within the Ubosot are murals covering the entire four walls which have been continuously restored over the years. In front of the temple stands a statue of King Taksin the Great. It is said that the king used to stop here on the way to set up his base in Chanthaburi during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767.
